Judicial documents revealed – today, Wednesday – that a Spanish court sentenced the Spanish player Santi Mina, the Celta Vigo striker, to 4 years in prison, for sexual assault of a woman in 2017, which prompted his club to suspend him temporarily.

The ruling by an Almeria court dated April 26 showed that Mina, who was indicted by the court along with Ibiza player David Goldar, will also have to pay compensation of 50,000 euros (52,650 dollars) to the victim.

The court acquitted Goldar of all charges.

Meena was briefly detained in June 2017, after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman while on vacation in Mojacar.

The judgment can be appealed to a higher court before it is implemented.

“Celta Vigo respects the player’s right to appeal the ruling, but at the same time he is obliged to take measures after the incident that threatens to discredit the club,” the Spanish club said in a statement.
